Career conversation with middle aged men earning huge is not what You would expect
When am not working on data , I’m definitely listening to people tell great stories for me to pen down . I love human stories .
The middle aged man makes a big sigh. He’s in his early forties . He looks in the distance . He’s one of the big earners in the country .Top 1% biggest earners. He revels in a 7 figure salary .
I’m interested in what he does , what he did and what he intents to do .
‘I’m the head of the sub-saharan region of the business . He says … Unenthusiastically. I notice the lack of passion as we delve into the nitty gritty of what he does . He struggles to explain the value he brings to the table.
‘He must be exhausted’, I think for a second . Altogether ,I move from his current role to former role . The man grins and talks of the many transformative projects he ran . He cannot help but speak of the innovative ideas he brought to the table . He speaks of the people he worked with . He singles out his former projects as the best thing he ever did in his career. The enthusiasm moves from zero to hero . I cannot help but notice that this man is conflicted between pay and passion.
I ran into his boss . He once told me he had recruited the man himself . He spoke well of him as a friend .
I could not help but wonder if such can be termed as incompetence. Could this be one of those hidden reasons corporations are running into losses ? Is the so called poor management alluded to lack of passion by top leadership ?
Does passion matter in productivity ?
